WSZECHNICA Society of Alternative Education started its existence in 1996. All forms of training sessions for teachers, especially teachers of information technology, have been within the main scope of interest since the very beginning. We have offered courses, workshops and seminars for teachers. Also, advanced training sessions have been offered to companies. We have been working in the field of the internet. Our server EduNET was launched, where a thematic portal devoted to education was established. Moreover, the institution participated in the realization of information technology training sessions within the frame of projects of the Ministry of Education entitled – Information technology laboratory for each commune and Computer laboratory for schools. Having been awarded positive verification by the Ministry of Education within the full range of training sessions we were allowed to train over 3000 teachers from two provinces.
The institution also includes WSZECHNICA Post-Secondary Vocational College, where information technology and foreign languages are the leading specializations. Therefore, education in the following professions is offered:

Danmar Computers sp z o.o.

Danmar Computers is an organization providing vocational training in the field of IT and developing and providing e-learning services from year 2000. It deals with: trainings, developing programs and training materials, counselling, designing web pages and elearning systems. Danmar has experience of many years of carrying out EU programs. All actions are based on the system of cooperation with domestic and foreign training and counselling institutions, universities, schools, as well as private sector companies. It provides training and support for people at risk, including unemployed and women. Danmar Computers’ technical team has extensive experience in developing modern web-based applications for use in areas of education, including integration with web 2.0 and multimedia technologies. Company’s mission is promoting life-long education and assuring equal opportunities of access to education for everyone with the use of modern technology and with innovative training methodologies.

Istituto Superiore E. Mattei

Istituto Statale d’Istruzione Superiore Mattei is an Italian State Upper Secondary School for students aged 14-19, which provides five different courses of study:

  • Liceo Scientifico – High school for Scientific Studies
  • Liceo delle Scienze Umane – High School for Socio-Pedagogical Studies
  • Istituto Tecnico Economico – Technical High school – Administration, Finance and Marketing
  • Istituto Tecnico Tecnologico – Technical High school – Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Energy/Electronics and Electrical Engineering
  • Istituto Professionale per l’Industria e l’Artigianato – Vocational school – Industrial Maintenance Services and Technical Assistance

Our school has 900 pupils, over 90 teachers and 27 non-teaching staff. We work closely with our students’ families and local institutions to ensure that each individual becomes a confident, effective learner and to promote inclusion and success for everybody, whatever their ability and socio-economic background.

Thanks to the strong links with the community, all students aged 16-19 have a 200/400-hour work placement, which is hosted by both local public institutions and private companies; this is an important opportunity for students to discover their interests and choose the right career path. We also provide qualified support to pupils with special needs such as non-native Italian speakers and students with mental or physical disabilities, learning difficulties and/or low levels of motivation.

After taking their final state examination students can either go to university or start working; Eduscopio (www.eduscopio.it), the annual survey drawn up by the G. Agnelli Foundation to return information on the quality of Italian high schools, shows that our students get very good results in both cases.

Our school is located in Fiorenzuola d’Arda, a town in the north-west of Italy with a population of about 15,000.

Liceul Pedagogic “Mircea Scarlat” Alexandria

“Mircea Scarlat” Pedagogical National College is a representative school at local and national level; it is the only pedagogical high school from the region. It offers vocational classes – pedagogical – kindergarten and primary teachers major and theoretical classes – humanities classes – literature major – bilingual classes in English and math and science classes – Informatics – Mathematics major. There are 55 teachers in our institution and 58% of them have the first degree in teaching.

Number of students: 854 students, ages from 14 to 19 years old, 67% of them are from rural regions. Approximately 10% of the pupils are roma, 25% come from lower income families, and 8% from single parent families. Because we are one of the best high schools in the region, 60% of our pedagogical graduates enter in the labour market in regional or national schools and kindergartens. The rest of 40%, as well as 80% of theoretical classes are applying to Universities.

Being the only High School with pedagogy major in this region, our institution appeals pupils from all over Teleorman region and from neighbouring regions (Giurgiu, Olt), especially pupils from rural regions, pupils of lower income families that are interested in having a job after finishing their high school studies. The majority of pedagogy graduates are returning to their rural regions as kindergarten or primary teachers contributing the growth in the teaching process of that disadvantaged environment, Teleorman region is struggling with a higher rate of unemployment but also with the lack of job offers. In this context, having this pedagogy major guarantees them a job in the educational system at local, regional and national level, being a large number of graduates that have already their teacher’s exam past and also continuing their studies at the University. The pedagogy and humanities major graduates have a license in linguistics which offers them more chances at a professional level. 20% have Cambridge certificates. The Informatics-Mathematics graduates receive a competence certificate, which they can use when applying for a job. Over 50% of the graduates have ECDL certificate.

Kekavas Vidusskola

Latvia, Kekava

Kekava general secondary school is the largest school in municipality with approximately 1000 pupils and 80 teachers. The school  was opened in 1975 with programmes of basic (Grades 1-9) as well as general secondary education (Grades 10 -12). Since 2013-2014 the school started specific programmes of basic and secondary education in the spheres of mathematics, natural sciences and technology. The objective of these programmes is to improve the skills and experience in the experimental work and to stimulate for a research action.

Along the formal education the school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities such as a choir and folk dance, basketball and floor ball. Also beside the lessons there is an opportunity for students to work in a study groups with a technical direction – a study group of robotics and a study group of aircraft modelling.

One of the priorities in the action of Kekava secondary school is the diversification of the teaching methods and methodological techniques orienting on the practical action in order for the students to be able to distinguish and notice their theoretical knowledge gained in lessons in their environment. Every year there are project weeks in the school while students make any natural science or social project resulting a real object. Theoretical knowledge necessary is acquired during the lessons of mathematics and natural sciences (e.g. – construction of a pasta bridge; calculations and planning for a journey to any planet of the Solar system; construction of an aircraft; flying the kites etc.). During the whole school year there are school trips organized according to the topics taught in lessons.

Thinking about the maintenance of nature friendly environment there is a competition of collecting waste paper organized every year in the school. Students collect also used batteries understanding the harm of their content.
